Abstract Background

About Me

My name is Damien Brooks and I'm a senior at Wakefield School, graduating in 2022 to further my education at Mary Washington University. I chose this topic because, growing up I've realized how controversial the debate on Capital Punishment is. Everyone has a valuable opinion and view on this argument, and I wanted to examine all sides.

ABSTRACT

Capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, is given to those who have been deemed to have done the seemingly worse possible crimes and acts of violence. The question that arises from this type of punishment is whether it is acceptable for the government to kill someone. If this form of punishment is still going to exist moving forward, we at least need to reform the system. There have been many cases where people have been exonerated because with new findings, they have been found innocent. Minorities as well get capital punishment considerably more than white people and people who are lower class get it more than middle-upper class citizens as well.
