What is capital punishment?

Capital punishment is a means of sentencing someone that results in them losing their life because of the crimes they have committed. The practice first started with Captain George Kendall in the Jamestown colony as he was the very first to be executed in the new world in the year 1608.

Old Age - Modern

Throughout history there have been multiple different methods to carry out capital punishment, read more about the methods below.

Lethal Injection + Electrocution

Lethal Injection - the practice of injecting one or more types of drugs within a person to cause rapid death. This is a modern execution tactic.

Electrocution - in which the person charged is subjected to intense amounts of electric currents.

Gas Chamber + Firing Squad

Gas Chamber - consists of a person being trapped in a sealed chamber with poisonous gas pumped within.

Firing Squad - A group of soldiers detailed to fire at a guilty person

Hanging + Guillotine

Hanging - the use of rope to hang and individual once condemned. This is an older tactic.

Guillotine - Carries out the execution by beheading the convicted person, this is also an older method.

Lethal Gas

Lethal Gas - This modern tactic seals prisoners in airtight cavity before pumping the poisonous gas inside
